Welcome to Electrotalk

Microbial electrocatalysis refers to the use of whole microorganisms as catalysts for electrode reactions. This means that we can use electricity as driver for microbial conversions in bioproduction, bioremediation, bioenergy and many more. The field of microbial electrocatalysis is rapidly growing, and despite the exciting prospects there is still a fundamental lack of understanding on how microorganisms actually interact with electrodes. The ERC funded project “Electrotalk” will focus on this intriguing interface. It builds on an interdisciplinary team of scientists and is embedded within the diverse microbial electrocatalysis work done at Ghent University. I hope you enjoy browsing the website and learning about the exciting opportunities and ditto challenges towards bringing sustainable technology to reality.
